A Multitude of Dynamic
Automotive Testing Features

Producing safe, reliable and effective vehicles requires complex testing along every phase of development—from R&D to market. ITIC has a multitude of dynamic testing features in a secure, closed testbed environment to meet the testing needs of the automotive industry. Whether you need to authenticate the quality and fitness of components, or determine the effect of real-world conditions, ITIC has test assets to meet your needs.

Encompassing 400 acres, ITIC’s proving grounds include the following test assets:

  • 3-Mile Oval Track
  • 1-Mile Asphalt Straightaway
  • 1,700-ft Durability Track
  • 1,000-ft Brake Lane
  • Slope Hill with 10% and 20% grades and split mu testing
  • EV charging infrastructure for passenger and heavy commercial vehicles

A World-Class Proving Ground Evolving for the Next Generation

Our new 3-mile Oval Track is designed to support a wide range of regulatory and performance tests. Featuring a 4,250-ft (1,295 m) straight that is three lanes wide, the track is engineered to satisfy UN ECE and NHTSA FHVSS test procedures for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), while also accommodating NCAP protocols.

The extended high-speed section and multiple lanes are particularly well-suited for evaluations of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), among others.

In addition to enabling thorough safety assessments, the track is ideal for mileage accumulation as well as performance and durability trials.

Designed by world-renowned Tilke, the new 3-mile Oval Track addition underscores ITIC’s commitment to providing comprehensive, real-world testing environments for next-generation mobility.

1-Mile Straightaway

The spine of the proving ground is supported by a 1-Mile Straightaway capable of innumerable configurations to test ADAS technologies, vehicle dynamics, lane changes, steering, and more. Features include:

  • Up to 5,400 ft. x 150 ft. straightaway asphalt track
  • Vehicle staging and pull-off areas
  • Delineated for multiple lanes upon request

Durability Track

ITIC’s 1700-ft Durability Track is designed with all events necessary to benchmark test for the Federal Transit Administration’s Structural Durability Test Procedures for public transportation.

The Durability Track can simulate accelerated wear and tear on large commercial vehicles in a controlled environment. Customers can use the specific sequences of the profiles to obtain repeatable data collection or partial use of certain areas for testing durability.

ITIC’S Durability Track design provides users the convenience of half the number of turnarounds, creating a more efficient testing environment. Fewer turnarounds, coupled with rest areas spaced in between test events, provide for a more comfortable test experience for drivers. An emergency lane located in between event lanes allows drivers to bypass specific events or pull off in the event of an emergency. Exact specifications available upon request

Vehicle test events include:

  • Staggered Bumps
  • Railroad Crossings
  • Frame Twist
  • High Crown Intersection
  • 4-inch Chuck Holes
  • 1-inch Random Chuckholes
  • ¾-inch Chatter Bumps

Brake Lane

The 1000-ft Asphalt Brake Lane Track provides the necessary grip to satisfy PFC requirements of 1.02 using the 16” SRTT required by NHTSA FMVSS TP 105, 121, 126 and 135.

  • 1000-ft Asphalt Brake Lane
  • Meets PFC requirements of 1.02 using the 16” SRTT

Slope Hill

ITIC’s Slope Hill Track satisfies various Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) requirements. The Slope Hill includes a 150-ft (45m) track with a 10% gradient and a separate 100-ft (30m) track with a 20% gradient. Each track is surfaced with a 15-ft (4.5m) concrete lane parallel to a basalt tile low adhesion surface permitting both high adhesion and split mu testing.

  • Meets FMVSS Test Procedure (TP)
  • 150-ft (45m) hill with a 10% gradient
  • 100-ft (30m) hill with a 20% gradient
